“Here are my thoughts on logos and how they affect your Visual IDentity.”
-Cordie Walker
Conveys the Purpose
How many companies (organizations, individuals, etc) have you seen with logos that make you have to ask what they do. Shouldn’t you be able to see a logo, read the name (and perhaps a slogan) and determine “oh this is a restaurant” “this is a medical society”. Although I understand there are exceptions to this, how much effort do you think the consumer is going to put into figuring out what you do and how they can be benefited from you service?
Easy to Identity
If your logo is “professional” (AKA just like everybody else’s) and blends into the industry standard how will one identify you from the other 10 similar stores/organizations in your marketplace.
Brandable
You might have a sweet logo but can this be applied to all you products and services to unify what might be a breath of categories? Could a sporting goods store have a basketball in their logo and also sell hockey sticks effectively? – Perhaps but it would take knowledge gained elsewhere to know “Sporting Goods Inc” sells more than basketball products.
