Should I have a mobile site?
You’ve probably seen some of the hype and wondered that for yourself.
So what do you do?
We always start this decision thinking about what would best suit your users.
ALSO – what best suits your business?
There are two alternatives
Option #1 – Dedicated Mobile Site
A dedicated mobile site works really well to give users quick info. Why? Because it looks like an app and can be programmed to get users the info you want them to. So for instance if users come to your site frequently to get your phone #, location, hours, etc a mobile site is perfect. You can configure it so users get that information and can make that quick decision.
As you can see in the picture. It looks like an app right?
Secondly you can see we only have part of the navigation and information.
We have a very specific purpose. Get them to call or come into the store.
Because when you’re searching on your phone you’re very likely to make a decision.
Make everything as easy as possible.
If you’re own a salon, massage, yoga, jewelry, auto repair, or other similar business this is what you need.
(we actually have a sister site offering this – check it out here @mobile.cordieinc.com)
Option #2 – Responsive Web Design
Responsive design means that as you change the size of your browser the content, images, display of the website changes. You really can see what a site would look like simply by dragging it on your laptop.
Here’s a recent site we’ve been working on – http://rahmanheatac.com/
So who is a good fit for this?
If you have a lot of content on your site and you want the user to browse through your entire site this is it for you. Have a blog? You need a responsive site.
If you’re maximizing your blog you should be posting on social media.
And where do the majority of people go on social media?
MOBILE PHONES
So if people are clicking on links to get to your site on their phone it better be formatted to look good.
So you have an existing site. It doesn’t work on mobile.
What do you do?
Talk to your web developer. Ask them your options.
Adding on a dedicated mobile site is often going to be more cost effective.
Shifting your site to responsive is a bit more developer intense but nothing that is undoable.
Anything doesn’t make sense?
