Read this if your only advertising plan is word of mouth.


Would anybody you know get value from this?

    Is there anything out there to help me generate leads?
    And not just rely on word of mouth?

    The question many local and even regional businesses ask themselves when it comes to growth and marketing.
    What does it take to achieve those dreams of growth.
    – Hiring more sales staff.
    – Opening another office?

    If you’re counting on word of mouth and viral growth, it’s time to expand that way of thinking.
    So let’s do that.  Maybe you’ve gone down this path…
    Yellow book is a couple grand a month and your not sure if that’s working.  So they sell you on some Google adwords.  But this just points to your website so who knows if it’s actually helping.
    $400 to have someone put spammy content on Facebook.
    $1500 a month to put your smiling face on a billboard.
    Maybe try some radio.  Or wait maybe a TV commercial is the way to go.

    If you ask me all that does is confuse me and ask the question.
    Will it actually work?

    Here’s my big bold hairy audacious answer
    No.

    You won’t meet your goals and you’ll waist time and money in the process.
    Thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars out and only hundreds in.

    So we have a problem.
    Relying on word of mouth isn’t enough.

    Where do you start?

    Start with your hub – your website.
    We mentioned advertising but if it doesn’t get the user to take some kind of action what is the point?

    So I’m going to walk through a VERY BASIC and over simplified process to improve your lead generation from your website.
    This will help you create leads and new sales THROUGH YOUR WEBSITE.
    Yes it is possible.  I promise.

    STEP 1 – This one is hard but you’re going to need to work on your Value Proposition.
    Why should I purchase from you vs your competitors?
    This is a whole blog post in itself.  So look forward to that.

    STEP 2 – We offer premium content/lead magnet or free advice to convert them to leads.  This can be in the form of a pdf (see how I’m doing this with the 5 forgotten keys in the sidebar over there to your right?   You can download it later.  Keep reading)
    Or it can be in the form of a free consultation.   (also over there in the sidebar to your right)

    Both of these are low friction ways you can offer immense value to your customer
    and also gain a benefit yourself.

    STEP 3 – We build a relationship by setting up a sequence of emails the lead gets after they download the pdf/ebook.  We aren’t just spamming them with offers and telling them to buy now.  Continue to provide value.

    STEP 4 – Start to provide them offers relevant to what they were interested in.  If the offer had something to do with web design  (to right, in the sidebar) then offer some services with helping them out with their website.

    Then offer a free consultation to help them along the way.
    Then send a case study on how you helped Sally and Tom achieve their dream kitchen,
    helping them from idea, design, and completion.
