Social Media Doesn’t Work…

Would anybody you know get value from this?

“social media doesn’t work for my business”

I’ve heard so many people say this.
In fact I’ve said it myself.

But we all know that some companies use it and have massive success. (even moderate sounds good to most)
So how do you turn likes, follows, and +1’s into revenue? Because that’s really what we’re after.

Hint: it’s not by posting links to the latest news articles or reposting a viral hit everyone has already seen.

    Let’s start from scratch.
You only have 100 or so likes on your Facebook page and you really have only posted once a month / twice a week. – really whenever you remembered or thought up something to post

The questions that come to mind are…
    – How come I can’t get any more likes?
    – Why doesn’t anybody like or comment on my status’s
    – My business isn’t that interesting I can’t post once or twice a week.

#1 How come I can’t get any more likes?

Would you follow your business? Let’s look at the businesses you do interact with.

    # Do they post frequently – Yes
    # Is it content that interests / entertains you? – Yes.

Both of these things you’re not doing.
It takes consistency and commitment to create a social media success story.

#2 My business isn’t that interesting I can’t post once or twice a week.

This is probably the most IMPORTANT ANSWER.
The goal with social media isn’t to have a success on the social site. It’s not about the likes or tweets. It’s about getting people to interact with your business. I would suggest this is getting them back to your website.
So you can’t tweet twice a week or once a day?
You need to start writing articles once or twice a week. Once you have this valuable content you’re creating.
It’s easy to promote that via social media. Take a relevant quote and add a link to the article.

Commit to creating content at least once or twice a week and then promoting that via social media.
If you’re creating valuable content then it’s not that difficult to promote that.
No longer do you have the blank state of what do I post about.

#3 Why doesn’t anybody like or comment on my status’s

If you’re measuring the success of a post by how many likes or comments. In my opinion – this is wrong.
Our ultimate goal is to get people back to your website to interact with your content; a percentage downloading some premium content that we nurture and turn into customers. (you can read more about this cycle here)

    Let me contradict myself however.
Having people interact with posts is important because that gives your brand (which leads back to your website) greater visibility.
It’s simple. When other people comment, share, like, retweet, more people have the opportunity to see your company.

    Make sense?

    I hope so.
